Matte vs gloss wrap: how to choose a finish

Same car, completely different character. Here is how matte, satin, and gloss wraps differ in look, upkeep, and who each one suits.
The finish changes a car more than the colour does. A gloss black and a matte black are the same colour and read as two different cars. Before you pick a shade, pick a finish, because it sets the whole character and it changes how you live with the wrap.
Gloss
Gloss looks like deep, wet factory paint. It catches light, shows off body lines, and reads classic and clean. It is also the most forgiving to maintain: it washes like normal paint and hides light dust better than matte. If you want the car to look freshly detailed all the time, gloss is the easy answer.
Matte
Matte kills the reflection and turns the car into a single, flat, aggressive shape. It reads modern and stealthy and gets attention precisely because most cars are glossy. The trade-off is upkeep: matte shows fingerprints, water spots, and grease more readily, and it cannot be polished to hide a mark the way gloss can. It rewards an owner who keeps it clean.
Satin: the middle ground
Satin sits between the two. It has a soft sheen, more depth than matte but none of the mirror of gloss. A lot of people who like the matte look but worry about the upkeep land on satin. It is the most flattering finish on a lot of body shapes.
Specialty finishes
Beyond the three basics there are brushed-metal, colour-shift, and textured films. They make a statement and they cost more, both in film and in labour, because they are less forgiving to lay cleanly. Worth it for a car meant to stand out; overkill for a daily you want to keep low-key.
- Want easy upkeep and a classic look: gloss.
- Want stealth and attention, and you keep your car clean: matte.
- Want the matte look with less maintenance anxiety: satin.
- Want something nobody else has: specialty, with the cost and care that comes with it.
